| Customer Reviews: NCAA Football 10 August 30, 2010 Luke E. Price (Indiana) Overall it's what you expect out of a college football game. Better graphics than the last on I played. I both like and dislike the recruiting between every weeks game. Sometimes I just want to play a game or two but I have to do the recruiting. However, on the other hand it makes you more involved recruiting process through the game and you can build you team throughout the season rather than just all at once after the season is over. I like the new team builder a lot and but don't like how the number of teams you download weather it be yourself that made them or someone else is limited. I don't like how you have to buy everything now when the game costs enough anyway.
Not Too Sure What The Hype Is About... August 19, 2010 D. Williams (Atlanta, GA) I am definitely a sports gamer and I love all sports video games. I have a PSP and an XBOX 360. I recently picked up NCAA Football 11 for my 360 and I decided to pick up NCAA Football 10 for my PSP. I wanted to have a portable college sports video game that I can play whenever I had the urge. After reading great reviews about the game, I decided to purchase it. Once it arrived, I immediately put it into my PSP system and got started.
The very first thing that I noticed was that it was a bit slow going between menus and what not. Alot of PSP games are like this due to the UMD so I looked past it. Once I actually got into a game though, I could not look past some of the issues of the gameplay. Maybe it is just me, but there is a 2-3 second pause between plays. I figured I could get used to it but the more I played it, the more it irritated me. Sometimes it would even pause for about 3-4 seconds right before being able to choose a new play. This, in my opinion, ruined the gameplay. I could not really get into the game because it was sooooo slow. I also had the quarters set to 5 minutes but because of the snail-like speed, it really turned into an hour game. I noticed also that it is even slower in RTG (Road to Glory) mode. I think it is because the CPU chooses the play for you and the UMD has to load it or something. Needless to say, I stayed away from Road to Glory mode, which was actually the highlight mode of the game.
As far as graphics go, it is pretty good. I personally feel that Madden on PSP looks better. The colors in NCAA though are very vibrant and have a WII-ish feel to it. Not a hard game to look at. The only thing I wish would improve are the player's faces. This not only goes for this game but all sports games on psp actually.
Besides the slowness of the game, one thing that really bugged me was the fact that receivers ALWAYS DROPPED PASSES. They could be wide open and STILL drop the pass! I went into the game options and turned passing assistance on and it still did it. So I even turned it all the way up to 100 and passes were still dropped when they were wide open! I understand not catching passes if the receiver was in coverage...but c'mon, dropping a wide open pass? Not good. Also, it was very hard to get any type of running game going. Maybe it was just my HB, but they run extremely slow and get caught in the backfield a lot. So what other choice do you have? Passing the ball...which will probably end up being dropped. Don't get me wrong, there were times where I constantly completed successful passes, but I think its really a game of luck and NOT skill.
Overall, the game was okay when I had it. I eventually traded it in at Gamestop for something else. But I would recommend this game to people who can download it from the Playstation Store. Slowness wouldnt then be an issue. But if you have to play it from a UMD, please save your money since the UMD slows down loading times. If you can look beyond the weird passing and sometimes odd running game, then this game will keep you occupied. To summarize:
PROS:
-Graphics look nice and vibrant.
-Offers an interesting Road to Glory Mode
-Dynasty mode is pretty deep
CONS:
-SLOW!!! (if you are playing from a UMD)
-Passing and running game is off
-Super Sim option is SLOW ALSO
Meh.... July 22, 2010 the klem I completely agree with everything else everyone is saying. This game is very "dumbed down" while I understand it has to be to fit onto a psp screen, I think it's been down a little bit too much. With that being said, It is a good game for what I paid for it. it is football pure and simple. The problem that i have with it is you have to tweak it to get it to the settings. Unless you are a diehard video game player, rookie is way to easy (68-0), and the next level i was getting my but kicked (32-14, 35-10). It could just be me, but It took me a while to get the game tweaked to a level where i could play it and keep the games challenging. All in all I like it, I just wish they would make a new hockey game for PSP.
game review July 14, 2010 Alex M. Chettiath (Redlands, CA USA) for all those ncaa football fans out there, get this game. it is awesome and fun. the road to glory (rtg) is a lot of fun. in rtg, u get to create a prospect or choose from any player on any team. there is dynasty mode where you get to play as a team and control the team. very fun. i just play rtg. that is the biggest part because you could import your character into madden nfl 10.
A mixed bag - but still enjoyable. April 29, 2010 John Manoogian 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first thing I did before writing this review was reading every other review posted for the product. I feel the need to dispel a few nagging untruths about the game and talk about my own personal experience as well as the pros and cons of the game itself in order to guide other consumers.
First of all - every negative review I read mentioned special teams. Yes. There is definitely a system to ensure that you score a return TD once a game or so. If you're playing against an especially great team (be it controlled by a user or CPU), then it will definitely be more difficult to employ, but it can work. Be aware of it.
Second of all - the game's AI will employ a few cheap tactics when you play against the CPU. Holding penalties that negate big plays, facemask penalties that aggravate you progress on defense, and fumbles or spectacular interceptions by the CPU's defense when they need the ball back.
I've noticed that some of these things (penalties) are related to your team's composure and the game situation. If you're losing, your team is likely to be more anxious and commit more penalties. If you gave the ball up via an interception and you did NOT guess the defense's play, your team's composure will dip and the CPU will have the momentum.
Then again, if you're playing Dynasty mode the game gives you a chance to get better through recruiting year in and year out. If you play well enough, you can turn a 2 or 3 win team into a powerhouse within a few seasons.
Better players produce better teams which produce better results, and you'll see that when you play against any CPU team after a while. Make sure you go after those five-star recruits even if they don't have an interest in your team. If they live in your home state and don't have top-drawer universities hounding them and offering scholarships, you have a pretty good shot at getting them.
It's a deep game, it's an enjoyable game, but it's also a flawed game. Use this information to your advantage and be prepared for the pitfalls, but also be prepared to have a good time.
