| Customer Reviews: Wonderful Old-style fighter May 12, 2010 Christopher T. Stoddard SNK-Playmore doesn't let down with another of their Anthology works! Having all of the series' characters in one title is a wonderful plus for fans of the series, and the character customizer is a nice little diversion for those who like to have a bit of personality added to their play. A good fighter for those who clamor for the originals.
WA-TA!!! May 7, 2010 lastunusedname (The city...of Townsville!) When I was a kid and this was on those Neo-Geo arcade machines, it was the greatest. They had one at a Pizza Hut and whenever I went there, this was the main attraction. I didn't even care about the pizza half the time. Samurai Showdown was like Street Fighter with swords and nothing beats Street Fighter with swords. Of course now I realize it was different from Street Fighter, but cut me a break I was a kid. I had nothing else to compare it to.
But I think what made it so great for me was that I always played against my brother because now that I'm playing it again by myself, it lacks that feeling from before. So, if you have some friends who can be counted on to throw down, you could do far worse than this. But if not, I would say no. This game really needs to be shared to be truly enjoyed. Its almost pointless otherwise.
The game has a weird fighting style where on easy, it won't do anything until you do it first and it always nails the counters and on hard its like being in a badass samurai anime except you're always random ninja 812. I also hate how your weapon can break. I know it can really happen, but either make it realistic or allow magic. Pick one and stick with it.
One of the best NeoGeo fighters made. May 3, 2010 James Peterson (Savannah, GA) This remake/port is one of the best (if not the best) NeoGeo made (for either Wii or PS2).
Still great fun and has good replay value.
Fun game, but it is tough April 28, 2010 Jonathan O. Solano (Las Vegas, NV USA)
I fell in love with the Samurai Showdown series (aka Samurai Spirits in Japan), after playing the first two on my friend's Neo Geo he got from Japan. I was already hooked onto it, after playing the first two games. My main reason for playing the series is for Nakoruru, I love her for how sweet and caring she is. I kept using her a lot when playing Samurai Showdown 2 when I am over at my friend's house or when he brings his Neo Geo over.
Including the first six games of the series, with Samurai Showdown 6 that was never released in the US until the anthology set came out. Unfortunately, it lacks 5 special, because the designers decided to keep it as a Neo Geo exclusive and they wanted to keep the anthology set's "Teen" rating to avoid controversial problems with the amount of violence that 5 special has. The game is still bloody without it, with the sound of blades cutting through flesh and the amount that comes out. I don't know for the other games, but I know that in SS2, you can cut your opponent right on the chest area and blood splats out or the opponent getting sliced in half, only no blood is shown for that.
I'll will say that this game was a pain in the butt for me to play, I haven't beaten the arcade modes for all of them yet, since I recently got it. Last night, I was trying to beat SS2's arcade mode and the cpu players like to be cheap and block your attacks, so expect to lose for a lot of times. The boss is annoying to fight and some of the other characters. You just have to have good defense and counter their attacks, definitely attack your opponent when they jump in the air and hit them before they hit you. Overall, good game!
Classic Sega Game March 15, 2010 Rocky Mortensen Finally they remade this and put it on the ps2 so classic I still have the one on sega ps2 is so much better just awesome! a must buy
