Amazon.com Product Description
Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories bridges the gap between the original Kingdom Hearts and the sequel, Kingdom Hearts II. Chain of Memories from Square Enix for the Sony PlayStation 2 is a complete 3D remake of the original Game Boy Advance release from 2004. This "bridge" installment was released in Japan in 2007 as part of the Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ compilation before finally making its way to North America. Combined with the card battle system of the original Game Boy Advance release, Chain of Memories for PS2 presents Kingdom Hearts fans with an entirely new gameplay experience.

The Prologue
The story begins with Sora, Donald and Goofy wandering through endless fields. Eventually, they come to a crossroad. Standing in the crossroads, Sora gazes up at the night sky and thinks of his lost friends.

From the distance, a mysterious man approaches from one of the roads. "Ahead lies something you need," he says, "but to claim it you must lose something dear." The man vanishes, revealing a single path that leads to the eery Castle Oblivion, which resembles a girl's drawing.

The Story
After this encounter, Sora, Donald, and Goofy go their separate ways. Soon, on a night when his island home is besieged by a mysterious storm, Sora is whisked away to an unfamiliar burg known as Traverse Town. There he meets Donald and Goofy, and learns that there are strange things happening in the world.

Donald and Goofy set off to look for their missing king, and Sora joins them to search for his lost friend, Riku. After a long journey that takes them across numerous worlds, Sora and friends finally find Riku and the lost king. But to save all the worlds, Sora must use his Keyblade to close the door to darkness, even though Riku and the king are on the other side. Believing the king's parting words -- there will always be a door to the light -- Sora locks the door, and the trio sets out on yet another journey.

The Characters
The cast of Chain of Memories combines Kingdom Hearts characters with familiar Disney faces. Sora, is a 14-year-old boy and the hero of this tale. Although a little naive, Sora has an uncommon sense of justice. On his journey, Sora is accompanied by Donald, a court wizard who shares a striking resemblance to Donald the Duck of Disney fame, and the clumsy, easy-going captain of the Disney Castle Royal Knights, Goofy.

Other characters include the mysterious, shrouded man from the crossroads; Sora's lost friend, Riku, a 15-year-old boy who is cool and collected; the lost King, who bares a striking resemblance to Mickey Mouse; and Kairi, a 14-year-old girl who's friends with Sora and Riku. Almost more strange than the man at the crossroads, a mysterious girl, Namine, draws pictures inside Castle Oblivion under close surveillance of an evil organization. As the story alludes, she may hold the key to Sora's most special memories.

4 out of 5 stars Cards are annoying.   July 29, 2010

The draw back of this game is that it is card based unlike the other Kingdom Hearts. Having to fight by the power of a card gets quite annoying. You also travel alone and only get help when you receive a friend card during battle Although the game is card based the storyline is fantastic and you get to travel to the same places traveled in the first Kingdom Hearts. You also get to play as Riku instead of Sora after finishing Sora's story. Overall the game is pretty fun but would be better with out a card based system.

2 out of 5 stars Cards...really?   July 27, 2010

Okay, so I was very excited about buying this game. So I did. I started to play it, and the story was great but the battle system drove me CRAZY! Chop chop chop...uh-oh, I ran out of card to attack so I have to run around and reload to do a basic slash...no thanks! Why didn't they just keep the battle system the same? I liked my button mashing...Anyways in my opinion the battle system took much away from the actual game play and made me put the game down. I haven't played it since, and I prolly won't play it again.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointment   July 16, 2010

I'll just come right out and say it: This game is not very good. Trust me. I liked Kingdom Hearts just fine, and Kingdom Hearts II is definitely worth playing, but this game I could have done without. Mostly because of the cards.

In this game, Sora loses his memories, and so he loses the ability to fight. You have to constantly recharge this meter so you can keep fighting. Where do the cards factor in? They don't. Not really. They're basically useless in the main story line. When you win fights, you get cards that take you different places. It would have been much less of a hassle to just have these places "unlock" when you win certain fights, but no. Instead, you get dozens of cards to sift through.

And the "enter fight" sequence is annoying as all get-out. Like Pokèmon for Gameboy all over again.

All in all, if you truly wish to purchase this game, I will not discourage you. But I will caution you that it's not going to live up to the other games. You have been warned.

4 out of 5 stars The Middle Story   July 12, 2010

Kingdom Hearts is a complex and cleverly crafted series about the story of Sora and his quest to find his friends and to reunite the cosmos. As a person who played the first game and then jumped straight into Kingdom Hearts II, I found that a lot of KHII seemed to be confusing. I didn't know what had happened to Sora that he needed to get his memories tied together and why he seemed to be on hiatus. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories filled in all of that information. For those expecting gameplay similar to the other PS2 games, please readjust your expectations. KH: Chain of Memories has you playing with cards that reload your attacks and it can be very confusing at first, but ultimately manageable. The story has you revisit some of the most popular areas from KHI and ultimately satisfies all of the questions you had at the beginning of KHII. Overall the game is satisfying and is a great addition to the series.

1 out of 5 stars Disney/Enix BOMB with this card game.   June 21, 2010

Bizarre isn't even close to how they messed up this game.I feel like I had 20.00 ripped off from me.I had no warning that the whole battle system evolved from cards.I never played Magic the Gathering, because i don't like this concept.I will not play Kingdom Hearts for the same reason.Don't care what the story line is,or what the graphics looks like. They can't call this an RPG.MY RECCOMMENDATION....DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.I'm really dissapointed at Square Enix for ripping off the public with the worst game they ever created.
