| Customer Reviews: Fun for Two and Great for Young Kids May 29, 2010 DRocK (Denver, CO) I told my wife I'd be interested in this game because the Lego games are great for co-op and I thought that maybe she'd get into it. She bought it for me as a present and we played through the first level together and I didn't pick up the game after that for some 6 months...
My son, who is 4, has really enjoyed the few Playstation 2 games I have picked up for him, but they are pretty limited since he is so young. There just aren't that many out there that a toddler is able to play or that are appropriate for his age group. Well, while this game has some very minimal violence, I decided to let him try it and thought it'd be fun since we could play together. HE LOVES IT! Suprisingly, he's pretty good at it too. It's not so easy that he could finish a whole level on his own, but it's not so complicated that it easily frustrates him either. I especially like that I can just drop out at any time (if I have something I need to attend to) and he can keep playing like it's no big deal. Then I can just jump right back into the game at any time. While there are a couple of frustrating aspects to the two-player, I really enjoy playing this game with my toddler son. Even though he usually prefers to just goof around and think of creative ways to make Robin die, he has a blast and gets some quality 'dad time' in all at once. Good game, particularly if you are / were a fan of the Batman animated series.
Fun Game But Disastrous Autosave Bug! May 19, 2010 Veil_Lord (San Jose, CA) The PS2 version of this game and possibly others have a critical glitch in the save feature. Even if you are very careful not to turn off the machine while it's saving and even if you exit to the main menu before turning the machine off, the game will occasionally report your save is corrupted the next time you try to play. I've personally had this happen to me after playing just three times. Thankfully I only lost a couple hours of time replaying it, but then it happened again at nearly the exact same spot. This is a horrible glitch to allow in a released game and they should have issued a recall.
Support is speedy and courteous, but ineffective. I had to find a work around online. The glitch seems to be with the autosave feature instead of the save file. If you get the error, try turning off the PS2 and taking the memory card out of the machine. Now start back up, but don't put the card back in until after you get to the main menu. After it's back in, then press start and choose to load the game and it should work. It worked for me and after I finished another level and saved the game doesn't think it's corrupted anymore. I can't guarantee it'll always work, but it's worth a try. I'd really suggest not getting the game so you don't have to deal with this annoyance, but maybe it doesn't happen on all PS2 models. I don't know. I have the latest slim model with a laptop style power chord, no brick at the end where it plugs in. Anyway, I hope it makes it playable to anybody who cannot return the game.
I've only been able to play the first full mission of the game due to the save glitch, but I have a feel for the game and while it's not very deep it is still fun. You have several different suits you can change into and each has a special power. You use these to solve puzzles, which are complex enough at times they should keep even an adult interested. Battles are pretty fun, even if you basically just have one attack button. If the other levels are as long as the first, then the length seems decent. I'm looking forward to playing the flip side of things where you get to be one of the bad guys. Also you can unlock a ton of characters from the show to play as, but you'll have to hunt down lots of Lego studs to unlock them all.
There are a few problems. The AI of your teammate varies between harmless and atrocious. At least you can hit them so I took great pleasure in beating Robin senseless after he failed to help me or just got in the way. The camera is mostly fixed and can be painful at times. I died more to failed jumps because I couldn't tell where a platform actually was in relation to me, than I did to enemies. Gathering the little Lego studs can also be tedious at times. You pretty much have to destroy everything, which sounds fun at first, but ends up just being a chore after a while.
If you're willing to risk the bug or can get by with the work around, then you'll get at least a few good hours of fun out of the game not even including the free play mode unlocked after you finish a level. If you don't want to risk it, just get Lego Star Wars.
Lego Batman is an instant classic April 27, 2010 Danyl O. Collings (Boston, MA) Lego Batman is a great game to play for all ages and the ability to play with the criminals make it a game that goes beyond my expectations. Great job and I wish more game creaters were as smart as this group.
LEGO BATMAN March 16, 2010 M. Witkop (Michigan) It was an ok game, not as fun as lego star wars but hey they had more content to work with I guess.
Fun for the kid in all of us February 3, 2010 Michael Paul (JACKSON, MI, US) An action pact fun filled lego action adventure game for the boys who loved playing with their legos and the kid in all of us.
