| Customer Reviews: yep - listen to the reviews April 29, 2010 Jedi mom, in VA (VA USA) Not worth the time or money. Freezes up everywhere. Camera views are terrible and get you killed more oftern than not. Try this game if someone gives it to you - I never finished the game.
A weak game November 30, 2009 R. Whitesell (Milwaukkee Wi) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Game is slow and has too much commentary and delay built in. I dumped the thing into the garbage.
I'm very sad...It is too glitchy October 29, 2009 Mauricio Boulogne 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like other people said...this game is plagued with glitches and bugs, it constantly freezes up. Ironically, is like the game is cursed or demonically possesed. I'm very desapointed, because, actually, it is fun (in some parts) the voice work and the story are really cool, and it has good atmosphere overall, but then: no shadows, poor AI for the support caracters, no multiplayer, low and ugly cuality of video resolution in cutscenes, etc, etc. I know is a PS2 game, but come on people, PS2 can do it a lot of better, for example: RESIDENT EVIL 4 is AMAZING!! And you must remember, that, like me, there is a lot of people in the WORLD who can not buy a PS3...not yet at least.
OK If You Can Get Past The Bugs October 21, 2009 Veil_Lord (San Jose, CA) This is a game I really, really wanted to like more than I did. They did some aspects of this game unbelievably well. For example, the proton packs and the streams look absolutely perfect. Wrangling a ghost is fun and looks/feels like it is supposed to. When you're actually forcing the ghost into the trap, your power is then unlimited; you also have unlimited traps so there is no annoyance. All in all, it's really like being in the Ghostbusters cartoon.
The options are also really well done. You can invert the Y-axis or not and there's even a sensitivity option, but I never tried it. You can also go back and replay old levels if you feel like doing it. The weapons are pretty good including the normal proton pack, a sort of ghost shotgun/freeze ray, and a slimer gun. There's also the PKE meter which is used pretty well to leave you ghost trails so you don't get too lost.
You've generally got at least one other Ghostbuster watching your back to revive you if you die. They really do seem like they're trying their best to help you, but they are usually inept. Picture a FPS game where you have partners, but instead of getting better weapons as you do they only ever carry the starting pistol and you'll see the problem. Sometimes they got in the way, but overall they were still at least useful as cannon fodder.
If it's so good, why did I say I wanted to like it more? It's the bugs. This is without a doubt the most buggy console game I've ever seen in my life. You'll play a level, beat the end boss and just before he dies, the game locks up. Whoops, you can't save in game so it's back to playing the level again and hoping it doesn't crash again. Fortunately, I didn't have it crash in the same place twice, but I still had to replay levels I had already beaten way too many times.
While you can still beat the game, some bugs are nearly game stopping. There's a level in a museum where you and Winston are in this Mayan exhibit and have to enter a doorway. I started bouncing around like a rabbit every time I tried to. Eventually, I pushed Winston to the door and bounced off of him and got through. Odd. At another point in a hotel, after you fight a ghost, if you go through the portal you'll end up standing outside the building with swirling psychedelic colors all around and be unable to complete the mission. You can get by this by standing in the doorway and inching close to the portal, stopping, inching forward a bit more, and repeating that until the game registers you entered it. Considering how repeatable that is, it's unacceptable they left that bug in. There was even a cut scene where every time I skipped it, I lost all sound in the entire level, except for proton pack streams.
Speaking of cut scenes, there's at least one that I suspect was a direct port from the Wii version, because the PS2 just cannot render the video. If you remember those old TVs with rabbit ear antennas where you had static all over and barely any picture, but you could just make out the people on there, then you have some idea. There were also more than a couple times that the in game cut scenes dropped the video and hung the game. That was extra nice since they happened after the boss fight, but before the game had saved the progress. D'oh! I ended up having to skip cut scenes sometimes out of fear of having to replay a level.
All these bugs are made worse by the load times. Starting up the game, I literally went out to the kitchen and made a sandwich and came back and the game was still loading to the opening credits. Yes, they make you wait at least a couple minutes while it loads the freaking developer's intros and there were apparently a lot of developers. It just adds insult to injury after having to restart the PS2 to sit through their stupid self-congratulatory advertisements. Also, once you do get into the game, you go to the firehouse, not the last level you were playing, so you have yet more load time to get back to the game.
While, it's not on the level of the current generation of consoles, for a PS2 version it holds its own very well. If it didn't have all the bugs, I'd easily give it 4 or possibly 5 stars. It's a little short, but not unacceptably short. If you're willing to sit through the load times and play levels a couple times due to glitches, then you'll have some fun with this game.
who ya gonna call not the Ghostbusters on the PS2 September 28, 2009 too buggy it sucked at loading but hey its the ghostbusters. IT PORTED FROM THE WII WITH OUT CO-OP
Wii version toke me about 5 hours PS2 took 8 hours!
