Product Description In Resident Evil 4 you'll know a new type of horror, as the classic survival-horror action returns with all-new characters, controls and storylines. We last saw Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 2 - a rookie cop in Raccoon City, fighting to stay alive. That was six years ago. Since then, government forces have managed to control the zombie threat and Leon has become a Federal agent. When the President's daughter is kidnapped, Leon tracks her to a remote, hidden fortress in Europe - where he'll relive the horror he faced six years before. Players will face never-before-seen enemies that make Nemesis seem like a kitten. You'll be wishing for the usual Resident Evil zombies!

| Customer Reviews: The first game that got me into the Resident Evil series July 12, 2010 Jason Weber I played this game for the first time about 3 years ago, and I still love it. That was when I first started playing rated M games on my PS3 and my friend loved this game, so I decided to buy it and test it out. It was one of the best action games I've played with easy controls, tons of enemies surrounding you, lots of awesome guns, and incredible boss fights. I just loved the environment that got a little creepy from time to time, as well as the parasite enemies. A few mindless puzzles were mixed in here and there as well as some merchants to buy/sell weapons and upgrade, which does kind of take the survival out of this game, but hey, it does come handy when you are facing 20 enemies at once and need the fire power. Its not too short nor long, but does feel like an adventure and ends with you feeling satisfied with the gameplay and journey, even if the storyline is pretty generic and uninteresting. The story is pretty simple but overused, a psychotic cult leader kidnaps the presidents daughter and plans to use her as bait which will then infect the entire country and cause a complete outbreak of his plague, making everyone under his control. How original. And if you didn't guess, you also get infected at a point in the game and must find the cure. And this game has a lot of corny lines and cliche moments. It still is the best action game on the market and has a pretty solid environment, with a very good unlockables.
+ Lots of fun and interesting weapons
+ Good evolution to the 3rd person camera and shooting mechanics
+ Game is pretty good length and can't typically be beaten under 10 hours
+ Boss fights are well placed and fun
+ Weapon upgrade system
+ Great unlockable weapons, costumes, and mercenary mode along with Assignment Ada and Separate Ways
+ Lots of fun ways to kill enemies, plus parasite enemies are interesting
+ Knife actually isn't underpowered and can be useful
- Takes away almost all survival with enemies dropping ammo and health
- Protecting Ashley gets annoying and becomes more of a chore with her hideous shrieks
- After fulling upgrading all your guns, game becomes so easy on seconds playthrough that you might want to buy a new weapon and not upgrade it to make more of a challenge
- The story is kind of lame and pulls away from the series, and you aren't really pulled into like the other Resident Evils
- A few annoying and flat characters who you will grow to hate like Salazar, Ashley, and even Saddler at times
- Leon is not cool at all in this game and tries too hard with his lame lines
- Kind of linear maps where it makes it obvious where you need to get to and what paths to take
- Can't play extra overtime mode Ashley offers at the end, just kidding who would want to see that
So this game is not the best Resident Evil in terms of survival or horror, but is the best in terms of gameplay and aiming. A lot of unlockables make for good replay, and there aren't many long puzzles that you have to redo, although there are annoying chase scenes. It is one of my favorite games and one of the best third person shooters for PS2. I would probably call this game the death of the classic RE series with the camera angle, shooting, and flesh eating zombies as we know it though. But we have Dead Space to bring back horror and survival to gaming.
No Zombies!? Wha.... July 3, 2010 Spineshank155 (Waukegan, IL United States) When i first played this game it was pretty exciting i liked the new controls, the upgradable weapons but as time went on playing it felt more like a combat game rather then a survival horror game. It's like playing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game instead of trying to avoid slow moving/mindless zombies that attack you when you get too close to them.
In reality this game was fun, but it did get long & boring. The story seemed to diminish as you went along so it seemed like Capcom worked its hardest during the beginning. If you played RE-RE3 you would notice the differences easily. Code Veronica wasn't even that great of a game, but even i liked that game a bit more then this one. I never finished this game mostly due to the fact it just didn't seem like a regular RE game. No Umbrella corporation & Capcom seemed too quick to shut them down. Not only that instead of the games being fairly moderate in difficulty, this game seems impossible. I couldn't get past various points in the game without giving up & going to something else. Even with a strategy guide it seemed wayy to difficult. There is no auto aim but you do get a laser aim. Controls are a bit easier to understand though & reloading ammo is more realistic.. would have been cool if there were mindless zombies walking around but it seems that most people prefer action over strategy.
I like this game, but it doesn't feel like a RE game & its not as scary as the older games were. I might go back to this game someday but for now im sticking with the original RE! =)
This game is simply amazing! June 7, 2010 This game is a great game that survival horror fans should check out! But there is something that makes the Playstation 2 version not as good as the Gamecube version...
The Good:Great story, awesome graphics, smarter zombies, better weapons, etc.
The Not-So-Bad: The controls.
The Bad:Nothing
The controls don't feel right on the PS2 version. On the Gamecube version, the controls were smooth and intuitive. The PS2 version's controls are not as good. It just doesn't feel right.
However, you will quickly forget the control issue as soon as you play the game. The PS2 version has more depth and lasting appeal than the Gamecube version. For instance, the Cube version has only the main game and the two minigames to keep yourself occupied. The PS2 version has the main game(with a few more weapons to buy), the two minigames, AND an all-new additional adventure(titled Seperate Ways)
where you play as Ada Wong. You'll still be popping this into your PS2 3 or more years from now.
I give this game around a 4.2 stars.
10 times better than previous RE4 April 22, 2010 Kenneth Gilkenson (Wittenberg, Wisconsin) Okay if you are a fan of RE this game is 10 times better than the other RE. Well itleast this game does not have an overhead view. And you got more space in the box.
Very Addicting Game-play April 7, 2010 D. Jones (LA) After looking at previews when it was first released, I wasn't so drawn to it. A Family member of mines bought it and i immediately got into it. i would say in a span of only a week, i played the whole game more than 4 to 6 times. If it had not been bought, i don't think i would know it to this day. I know i may be a little late in doing a preview of a game thats been out for a LONG time, but not everybody has it.
First of all, this Resident Evil marks a new beginning for future resident evils. the game-play is not really the same anymore. The camera angle is always behind your back, maybe a little to left side of Leon's shoulder. It provides decent exposure, so there's nothing bad about it. Of Course enemies will be around you, so the camera angle can't show you Leon's blind sides. But Leon will turn his head to the nearest enemy to warn you that one is near, so thats the time to run and create distance. When he enters a building or any other area, the camera is not going to be in varies places like in previous REs, unless it's trying to show you your next obstacle/assignment.
Like Claire's last game, you're pretty much far away from Raccoon city. Leon is somewhere in Spain, on a secret mission to find the president's daughter who's been kidnapped. On the way, he'll meet a new Character name Luis who will help you. You'll see some familiar faces like Ada Wong (who looks REALLY good by the way) and Wesker. There are no zombies, or at least the same KIND of zombies. They can speak and are very quick. Something is making the villagers sick. and you'll learn about a ugly bug that is injected into people's bodies, sticks to your ribcage and spreads the virus all through the body.
Aiming can be a little tricky because it is not automatic. you have to ACTUALLY AIM accurately as best you can, but its not really a big deal. The player is just not lazy this time. If you aim at the knee caps or in the face, the Enemy will be stunned for a few seconds. thats your time to run up to them and Leon will perform an assault. this will save you loads of bullets. You can also upgrade your weapons from a creepy merchant who will be waiting for you in various places. This merchant offers a load of goodies, such as inventory room, first aid spray, new weapons, weapon pieces. He also accepts any jewels or treasure that Leon will find in exchange for more money. You can also sale anything you have back to the Merchant. You do have the option of killing the merchant with a VERY simple attack. But i am pretty much unaware of how the relationship between he and Leon will be once you find the merchant in another area. You'll have to read on that. The Merchant also has a aiming range room. I'm not really sure about this either because i don't play it much.
Leon's attitude in this story is much manlier but he still has a big heart. He's not a rookie anymore and he'll show you why. lol. But he's serious this time. He'll have to babysit Ashley, which is the girl he's come to rescue. You have to watch out for her because enemies will pick her up or go to the nearest exit, and when that happens, the game is over. Be careful on where you shoot the enemy that's holding Ashley. i usually aim for the feet and they will drop her. There are three commands you can give to Ashley, You can either go anywhere and tell her to wait there, you can run up to a garbage dumpster and tell her to hide in it, or you let her stay with you if you're really good at dodging enemies when she's by your side. You can't go through an exit or to the next area without her, though. Like the merchant, Ashley is extremely vulnerable, so make sure not to throw a bomb near her, or accidentally shoot her. she's just a girl. XD
There are tons of boss battles, so you'll be pretty busy, but you'll also have fun. these aren't really phony boss fights. the bosses look really yucky but they also look awesome. you can tell the creators put ALOT of thought and time into making this game. The game is also extremely long. it surprised me.
After you complete a game, some goodies will be unlocked at the Title screen. An option called "extra" will appear at the bottom. its kind of hard to see, but its there. pick that option and you'll see that you now have a Theater, you get to play Ada and experience HER side of the story, but her's is a little shorter. you also get to play another story as Ada, but this is more of a challenge game where you have to find specific items that Wesker wants her to get. Both Characters will get to keep everything that they've found in the first round of the game, that includes weapons, ammo, treasure and money. the only thing Leon doesn't keep is his jacket, which is what he wore to start the game off. that was pretty weird. maybe a glitch?
Leon and Ashley will both have two extra outfits. One outfit is his old S.T.A.Rs outfit which looks awful on him in my opinion (he looks like he has a bunch of belly-roles) and the other is....lol well it looks like a pimp outfit, but he looks REALLY good in it. Ashley on the other hand, looks kinda weird. One is called a pop-star outfit if i'm correct and the other is a knight armor. THIS will come in handle for Ashley because if an enemy is near her they can't touch her at all. she's invincible to any damages with that armor on, even to a rocket launcher. The only downfall about it, is that every time Ashley moves, the armor makes some annoying noises too. They don't let you mix the outfits in combinations either. Before you start a game, they will ask which outfits you want, you can either pick, Normal, Outfit 1 Or Outfit 2. so its not like you can pick outfit 2 for Leon and then outfit 1 for Ashley. They both get the same.
You will also unlock an Infinite Rocket Launcher which is something i love using, but costs alot!!
NOw that the price is really low, i would urge anyone who hasn't bought it yet, to give it a shot. I do believe it is worth the money and it has ALOT of action in it!!
